My New Favourite Brush!?

DSCF0470DSCF0471DSCF0472

Denman Brush – around £11 at Boots

I’m not sure about anyone else, but to me, a brush is a brush. I mean, it gets rid of tangles, it partings my hair; it is a basic tool made for the hair on our heads. My go-to brush for quite a while now was a Babyliss blow-dry brush –pretty basic then-, until a dear friend of mine persuaded me to spend £11 on this bad boy –when I say persuaded, what I really mean is she bought one I wanted one too.  It claimed to rid of fizziness and give your hair a nice bounce. Bounce you say hmm, Denman? Bounce?

My hair is in ridiculously bad condition at the minute and is due a good cut, so I’m not even sure why I bought the brush to be honest, as I assumed it would do naff all to my wiry locks. Anyway, I blow dried my hair section at a time, curling the ends as I went and what a result! I have no pictures to show you, but usually after a good blow drying sesh my bonce is the size of one of those pom-pom balloons on elastic bands that you get from The Hoppings Fair –they’re huge. My hair had a lovely shine to it, and obviously there was still some post-hair drying frizz present, but nothing a little Luxe oil couldn’t sort. The ends of my hair were just the way I like, curling in one direction then the other, and I even got complimented on it that evening –buzzing!

I would recommend this brush to anyone with long thick hair, but I’m sure that there are much cheaper alternatives in Boots and Superdrug. It did take me a good ten minutes longer than my usual flip my head forward and blast the hairdryer all over my hair technique but it is worth it and I am happy that 11 quid hasn’t gone to waste.

Has anyone else been silly enough to spend obscene amounts of money on a hair brush? Do you have a brush that is special or does any old brush do the trick?

  1. Haha love the Hoppings reference! But back to the point in hand, I've got a brush like this and agree they're amazing, it really smooths down my rather unruly hair. Glad yours did the trick too, bet you would have been pretty annoyed if it hadn't at that price! x

    1. I'm glad someone knew what I was on about :P oh god yeah there's nothing worse than putting your faith and money into a big brand for it only to let you down! So I got lucky with this one :) xxx

  2. Ooh this sounds amazing, so tempted to buy one! I am completely useless when it comes to styling my hair, especially blow-drying. Usually I just stick my head upside-down and hope for the best haha!

    1. I'm exactly the same. I dread having to wash my hair because I just hate styling it, but after months of neglect I really don't mind spending a few more minutes on making my hair look healthy once again!xxx

  4. I agree about a brush being a brush haha, I had the Tangle Teaser brush given to me a while ago. I can't really comment on how good it was, it just seemed like a normal brush to me but more expensive ha! Might actually go out and buy this one though if it's worth the price! Great post x

  5. I think it's definitely worth investing in good hair brushes - I spent £10.50 on a Tangle Teazer and I've never looked back - they're amazing! I may have to try this one out if it helps prevent blow-dry frizz!

  6. I always look at this type of brush and shudder as my hair tends to eat them up. i've seen so many hairdressers losing the battle with my thick hair using this style of brush.
I do however love Denman, I have a Denman paddle brush which I've had for years and is completely impenetrable to heat and everything so I would be really interested in seeing if this runs to this style of brush too.
All I know it that I'm never moving from Denman!

  7. These brushes are actually amazing. I used to have a flat one and I swear it made my hair sooo smooth and silky. I loved it but I think either I lost it or my mum stole it :P

  10. I may give this brush a go! I've been converted to the Tangle Teezer as after a month or so of constant use it's left my hair in such a lovely, silky condition. I'd highly recommend it if you haven't tried it! xx

  11. I've always wanted a Mason Pearson but have never plucked up the courage to spend £30 on a hairbrush... the one I use at the moment is a Denman though and I love it! x

  14. I'm the complete opposite, I don't use a brush! Probably not good for my hair, but I find it goes massive if I attempt to pull a brush through it. Glad your £11 hasn't gone to waste

  15. I love Denman! I have an ordinary paddle brush from them and you can definitely tell the differnce between the quality. My old cheapie paddle brush rips most of my hair out but my Denman is amazing. Hardly even tugs! x
